three universes

  • Scott: dude, I'm so relived we got the cross-browser stuff worked out
  • Scott: wotta PITA
  • Michal: no kidding
  • Michal: it's like doing the work for three universes
  • Michal: one's upside down, the other's offset by a few feet and a little smaller on the left, and one's just right
  • Scott: yeah, and the laws of gravity and electromagnetism are just slightly different
  • Michal: it's like each browser comes with a reality distortion field :)

Genesis - “Musical Box” [1971]

Featuring a reedy Peter Gabriel and hirsute Phil Collins.

If the pre-80s Genesis were around today I’d bet Pitchfork would be all ga-ga over them.

Valley of the Dinosaurs intro.

Posted here only because actor Jackie Earle Haley, the voice of Greg Butler, would later go on to play Rorschach in the film adaptation of Watchmen.

Plus: one of the best Golden Age of Saturday Morning TV shows EVER.

There’s no getting around the fact that [both of] these songs imagine female self-worth solely in terms of male approval.

I’m conflicted on the idea of trailers for books. On the downside, it partially ruins the book in advance by putting some filmmaker’s images in my mind’s eye that should really be my own. Like seeing the Harry Potter or Twilight films before reading the books. Instead of your imagination filling in the blanks, you see that Pattinson dude.

That said, this trailer for Leviathan totally makes me wanna read this sucker.

In this sense, saying “Radiohead were successful with an album they gave away for free” or “Amanda Palmer made a pile of cash on Twitter” is the equivalent of saying birds fly by flapping feathered wings. All of these statements are true. Nevertheless, assuming that you’ll have a successful album if you give it away for free, or that you’ll make a pile of cash if you’re on Twitter, is the same as assuming that you’ll fly if you start flapping feathered wings. Good luck with that one.

The Cynical Musician » Ask Why, Not How.

I don’t always agree Faza but I totally get this. There’s a ton of cargo cult thinking from aspiring artists and “music 2.0” “journalism” these days.
