In this sense, saying “Radiohead were successful with an album they gave away for free” or “Amanda Palmer made a pile of cash on Twitter” is the equivalent of saying birds fly by flapping feathered wings. All of these statements are true. Nevertheless, assuming that you’ll have a successful album if you give it away for free, or that you’ll make a pile of cash if you’re on Twitter, is the same as assuming that you’ll fly if you start flapping feathered wings. Good luck with that one.

I don’t always agree Faza but I totally get this. There’s a ton of cargo cult thinking from aspiring artists and “music 2.0” “journalism” these days.
